(1963)  A Gringo like me - Duello nell Texas - Gunfight at Red Sands

A very brief glimpse into the music of Italian composer Ennio Morricone, who lived until 91, composing  over 500 film scores.

• In 2016 he won the Oscar for Best Original Score for The Hateful Eight 

  Morricone teamed up with Tarantino for The Hateful Eight - this was his first Western score in 40 Years.

  Morricone’s score, also re-using work from the 70s and 80s, plundering the soundtracks of horror movies The Thing and Exorcist II.

Spirited Away (2001) - Sixth Station - Studio Ghibli's Japanese animated fantasy film directed by Hayao Miyazaki, features a score composed by Joe Hisaishi and performed by the New Japan Philharmonic symphony orchestra.

Amelie (2001) -  La Valse d'Amélie 

Director Jean-Pierre Jeunet used accordion and piano-driven music of Yann Tiersen after his production assistant indroced him to the artist, he had intended to use Michael Nyan a happy note of coincidence, since I played a track from him earlier. 

Seven Nation Army - The White Stripes - used in a myriad of movies and shows, because we love a sick beat in an action movie. 

You may have heard it in: 

• Suicide Squad (2016) in promos and the like. ( Does anyone else get peeved when the trailer song is not dropped in the movie?) 
• Cinderella (2021): A mash-up titled "Whatta Man / Seven Nation Army" performed by Nicholas Galitzine and the cast for this movie.
• Wicker Park (2004)
• The Science of Sleep (2006)

The Bear (2023)  (TV): Throw your arms around me by the Hunters & Collectors - Used in Season 2, Episode 8, "Bolognese" performed by by Neil Finn (Crowded House, Split Enz) and Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam). We play the og Hunters and Collectors, but it's worth looking up this version for some of that Pearl Jammy twang goodness.

The Cyril Stapleton Concert Orchestra - Op shop find by Marissa from Ska Street - 

After a lengthy orchestra history with the BBC and war times, Stapleton his own group The Cyril Stapleton Orchestra. He had two chart hits in the US -  the instrumental The Italian Theme (Number 25, 1956) and The Children's Marching Song (Nick Nack Paddy Whack) (Number 13, 1959). With the second one selling one million copies!   He continued to tour and record into the 1970s.

Hamnet REVIEW 

Hamnet is a tragedy and this one is told mainly through the lens of Agnes.

Directed by Chloé Zhao, who co-wrote the screenplay with Maggie O'Farrell, it is based ona novel by O'Farrell. 

Looking at the early family life of William Shakespeare and his wife Agnes Hathaway, the two are thrown into grief after the death of their 11 year old son, Hamnet. 

It stars Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal as Agnes and William, with Emily Watson, Joe Alwyn, and Noah Jupe in supporting roles.

This movie danced with feelings both powerless and powerful at the same time. It had striking visuals. The filmmaker put the viewer in a position where they had to kind of sit in grief.

You just might disassociate from the stress of this and some people have walked out of this movie labelling it ‘grief porn.’

The film is slow and not mindless with its representation of the trials of early parenthood,  particularly the role of mother. 

I found myself  fairly disinterested in Shakesphere played by Mescal but captivated by Buckley and the child actor playing Hamnet. 

My friend who went in completely forewarned of the movie, Michelle, said it was a sock to the guts and we’re both still recovering. 

Cried buckets 9/10 Shakespeare's - be gentle with  yourself but well worth a cinema visit.
