The Wild Bee Festival is an annual event run by the National Biodiversity Data Centre as part of the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan. It is a weekend of walks, talks and workshops for community groups, raising awareness of Ireland’s pollinators and how to help them in our communities.

The 2026 Festival is coordinated by the National Biodiversity Data Centre in collaboration with B Corridor, a biodiversity action group based in Waterford City.

What to Expect

The festival will take place in the Waterford Education Support Centre, featuring a series of talks led by biodiversity experts and community groups on pollinators and the simple , evidence-based actions we can take to help them. Talks will include: ‘How Communities can Help Pollinators’, an introduction to Community Biodiversity Action Plans led by FERs ecologist Ciarán Byrne, and a guided walk of the Maypark Nature Trail led by B Corridor. Other speakers include Waterford Trees for Life, ecologist Dr Fiona MacGowan, the Three Sisters Women’s Shed and the Déise Men’s Shed. Saturday afternoon will also feature the ‘Cross Pollination station’ led by artist Siobhán Clancy - a creative drop in space to process new information about wild bees, swap ideas and learn about bees in the arts, health, folk tradition, and mythology.

“This is the fifth annual Wild Bee Festival, and the first one to be held in Waterford. Every year the festival is a chance for community groups to come together and learn how to help biodiversity in their towns and villages. We’re delighted to be partnering with B Corridor to hold this year’s festival, a group who have done exceptional work for pollinators and biodiversity here in Waterford. If you have ever wanted to find out more about wild bees and how to help them in your community, this is the event for you!”

Following enormous success, year on year, the club continues to expand.

Ollie and Dymphna were joined on air by committee member, Liam Sheehan.

He outlined the joy with which he sees new faces coming to see the club every single week.

These are people new to the area, families looking to help their child expand their social circle a little, or to be brave and try something new.

Catering for all ages, the club is beautifully situated near the boardwalk and near some award-winning coffee (Liam reliably informed us!)

Taking place Sunday of next week, August 23rd in Dogleaf Park, entry is just 5 euro per head.

Liam outlined the wealth of options available on the day, including face painting, bouncy castles, tug of war, penalty shoot-outs, foodie options, and games for all ages.

Families do not need to be members of the club, they are welcome on the day to soak up the fun of the fair in Abbeyside.

This comes as a record number 1,433 clients accessed the services and therapies provided by the centre last year.

This number includes individuals affected by a cancer diagnosis, including clients themselves, their friends, families, and those who have experienced a bereavement.

The annual Run and Walk for Solas (rebranded this year from the Run and Walk for Life) raised €230,000 last year.

The registration for this year's two day event is now open for both the Dungarvan and Waterford City dates on October 10th and 11th respectively.

8ft Tall and 350 Lbs

Murphy spent three years travelling the length and breadth of the United States as an 8ft tall, 350lbs attraction.

Reports from the media at the time refer to his pleasant nature and kindness.

The story of James and the wider conversation around P.T Barnum, whose story is told in part in the popular film, The Greatest Showman, has sparked significant controversy in modern times.

Carrick-on-Suir man and WLR familiar face Gary Russell is preparing to push himself further than ever before taking on an extraordinary ultramarathon challenge in aid of the Solas Cancer Support Centre.

And this isn't Gary's first time going the extra mile for Solas.

Gary Russell's 2026 Challenge

Last year, he ran an incredible 235km over just 10 days, raising more than €5,000 for the centre.

That distance had a very personal meaning. It represented the 235 men who had sought support from Solas during the previous year.

This time, Gary has set his sights considerably higher.

He began training back in November 2025, and when his 2026 challenge is complete, he will have covered more than 1,400km on the road.

It's a staggering physical and mental undertaking, but for Gary, it's about far more than running.

It's about giving something back.

Every cent raised will go to Solas, which provides vital services, support and therapies completely free of charge to people affected by cancer from its bases in Waterford City and Dungarvan.

The need for that support is enormous. Last year alone, it cost €1.2 million to operate the centre, with 1,433 people accessing its free services and therapies.

For someone who is willing to put his own body through more than 1,400 kilometres of running to help others, it's perhaps no surprise that Gary is described as a man with a very big heart.

He joined Ollie and Dymphna on The Big Breakfast Blaa to talk about the mammoth challenge ahead, the months of training already behind him, and the reason he's prepared to go the distance once again for Solas.

Frank Kennedy is one third of the brains and passion behind the business model, which aims to assist members of the public, particularly older members or those new to the community who may not have confidence in choosing a tradesperson for a job.

It features a large catalogue of traders across a range of disciplines across Waterford City, Dungarvan, and their environs, with the aim of being the 'modern day equivalent to the business Golden Pages.'

Frank joined Ollie and Dymphna on air to discuss the evolution of the business, the etiquette involved in contacting someone about a job to be done, and why sometimes a handyman is the better option of smaller household jobs.

He also looked at the increase, as reported by Gardaí, on the prevalence of rogue builders in the area and the importance of having trust established between all parties.

Costing just €10, it's one of the rare impulse buys that actually delivered exactly what it promised. Unlike the pore-blocking aluminium deodorant and the caffeine water (the less said about those, the better!), the pop-up stool earned Grace's full seal of approval.

Decked out in Adidas and looking like she'd stepped straight out of Kevin & Perry Go Large, Grace embraced festival life at All Together Now and Spraoi, proving that experience really is the best festival accessory.

Of course, it hasn't always gone so smoothly. Only Grace could manage to get hypothermia at a summer festival – during the very first All Together Now, she was convinced her final moments had arrived and even sent farewell messages to loved ones from the festival portaloos. Thankfully, this year was a very different story.

There was also a special mention for Rory, who continues his search for the woman he met by chance in Waterford. Grace has declared she's waiting in the wings – festival stool, anti-inflammatory gel and all – with absolutely no chance of letting hypothermia get in the way.

While the costs combined are significant, they pale in comparison to the costs facing many families this year. These are the cost-of-living expenses for families already living far below the breadline.

Teacher Katie Chance spoke on air with Ollie and Dymphna about the reality that each and every day in schools in Waterford, there are students who are going without.

In her experience, they are going without food, without clean running water, without the basics that many other households will take for granted.

She reflected on some of the mounting educational costs including the annual voluntary student contribution, in some cases the cost of the purchase or rental of a tablet device required by the school.

As a teacher, she said it is incredibly difficult to ask students to buy extra folders for notes or extra copies, when pupils are taking extra from the Breakfast Club just to ensure they have something to eat at home later that day.

This sobering interview is a heartfelt plea from Ms Chance for society to do more, to be better, and to assist students in breaking the cycle of poverty endemic in schools in Waterford.

Rory contacted WLR in an effort to find a woman he had met in Waterford City two weeks ago.

Joining Ollie and Dymphna on air, he reflected on how he saw her just after the HSE building on the approach to the SETU campus in the city.

Normally, he said, he would say nothing, but something in him told him to be brave and tell her she was beautiful and to introduce himself.

They walked together towards the bus stop, chatting all the way, as Rory was on his way to work, and she was on her way to catch a bus, he believes to Dungarvan.

He says he contacted WLR at the risk of sounding a little 'creepy' but he said he just felt like the connection was something he can't get out of his head, and he needs to know if it could be anything more. 

Rory says he is filled with regret for just walking away and not suggesting the possibility of them seeing each other again, or if that would even be something she would be interested in.

Rory believes her name is Ariana, or something close to that, and that she possibly cares for family members full-time.

Apart from those details, he has no more to go on, but says he is torturing himself wondering 'What If?'

The Boil the Kettle event returned after a break of 26 years raising money for Relay for Life Donegal.

Fans travelled from all corners of Ireland, as well as some die-hard fans hopping over the Irish Sea to have a cuppa with the man himself and his wife, Majella.

More than 18,000 euro was raised on the day, with fans returning home with mugs, merchandise, and pictures of them with Daniel and Majella.

The entire event was held in the garden of the family home, adorned with its famous flowers and shrubbery.

Jackie is a fan for more than 40 years of the man himself, and she hopped in the car and made the trip to Donegal with her mum, who also attended the last tea party in 1990.

The changes implemented in the paediatric ward of University Hospital Waterford over that time have included new beds, cots, wall murals, equipment, and now a brand new sensory room.

This was designed with the children and their families in mind, to alleviate the stress and anxiety from an already difficult time.

Additionally, the changes implemented have had the knock on effect of making UHW a happier place for staff to work and to thrive.

Ray and Joe, both co-founders of Juniors for Juniors were joined in studio by Junior, the beloved mascot of the charity (and a fantastic little man for the cuddles!)

However, while you will see Joe and Ray in the hospital very often, with the beautiful mornings and evenings the last while, you will see them somewhere a little closer to home... right above our heads.

The Waterford branded hot air balloon sailing overhead belongs to Joe and he represents Waterford across the world at hot air ballooning championships and gatherings.

Sixteen-year-old Ben Dawson has become a familiar and much-loved face among the older members of the Mooncoin community, thanks to his dedication, kindness and willingness to give his time to others.

Over the past seven months, Ben has volunteered regularly with the Mooncoin Day Care Centre, where every Wednesday after completing his Transition Year work experience, he would arrive with his accordion to provide music and entertainment for members alongside local musicians. However, his contribution went far beyond music. Ben made a point of spending time chatting with members over tea and sandwiches, creating meaningful connections and brightening their day with his warm and friendly nature.

His commitment did not end when the music stopped. After each session, Ben stayed behind to help staff tidy up, pack away chairs and tables, and assist with any tasks that needed to be done before heading home.

When the Day Care Centre paused for the summer, Ben continued his voluntary work by dedicating two afternoons each week to entertaining residents and their families at Mooncoin Residential Care Home.

Perhaps most remarkable is the fact that Ben only began learning the accordion in January of this year. In just a few short months, he developed his skills to a level where he could confidently perform for others, choosing to use his talent entirely in service of the community.

Through his generosity, reliability and genuine care for older people, Ben Dawson has become an inspiring example of how one young person can make a real difference. His commitment to bringing joy, companionship and support to others has left a lasting impression on all who have met him and makes him a truly deserving recipient of recognition.

A passionate baker, Tomas has used his talents to support local causes, selling homemade treats at community markets and raising funds for Naíonra Philib Barún. He is also an active volunteer with Tramore Tidy Towns and regularly bakes for Revive Tramore, where he enjoys spending time with older members of the community and helping at events.

During the interview, Tomas spoke with warmth and humility about why he loves giving back and the importance of community spirit. His selflessness, enthusiasm and positive attitude have made him a wonderful role model, proving that age is no barrier to making a real difference.

Also in studio was Tomas' mum, Gemma, who is understandably proud as punch of her son. 

He arrived in studio armed with cake and we can confirm that it didn't last two minutes in the Broadcast Centre.

This was despite him being admittedly 'not much of a swimmer' but following a tragedy at sea, they were determined to swim in a bid to fundraise for a lifesaving service at Helvick Head to replace one that had been decommissioned some years previously.

The rest is history because last weekend, the 30th RNLI Helvick head swim took place with a record 117 swimmers in the bay and 207 volunteers.

One of those volunteers is Anne Harrington, whose mother sadly died when Anne was just two years of age in an incident at sea.

It was these lived experiences which brought both Darren and Anne to the RNLI as a charity, determined to provide not just a necessary service within the community, but also to provide a focal point within the community to bring people together.

David Phillips is a beekeeper, who turned his hand to this pursuit after a chance visit to the Waterford Harvest Festival.

Now the proud owner of two beekeeper suits and many, many bees, he produces honey and continues to develop the growing hives.

Speaking with Ollie and Dymphna, Dave admitted he pulls back the feet coverings on his beekeeper suit and exposes the skin of his feet.

He believes this has significantly improved his symptoms when undertaken with care.

For Dylan, performing isn't just a job, it's in his blood. A member of the legendary Courtney circus family, he has spent his entire life on the road entertaining audiences around Ireland.

The Extraordinary Circus Family

"I was brought into the circus under an elephant's trunk," he laughed, recalling the family story of his introduction to the business. "The first act I really remember was a horse-riding act with my brother and sister back in 2012."

The Courtney family name has been synonymous with Irish circus entertainment for generations. From Dylan's father to his brothers and sisters, the family has continually adapted and evolved, bringing traditional circus skills into the modern era.

Growing up on the move was far from ordinary. Schoolwork travelled with the family, friendships were made both in classrooms and under the big top, and every day brought a new adventure.

"I've literally been everywhere in Ireland," Dylan said. "That's probably the best thing about this life. You get to see the whole country, meet people everywhere and then go back years later and see old friends again."

A Reimagined Circus Model

This weekend's Adrenaline Stunt Circus is the latest evolution of that family legacy. Forget everything you think you know about the circus. There are no animal acts, no traditional ringmaster and no hiding behind the curtain. Instead, audiences can expect non-stop action from start to finish.

"We've got monster trucks, motorbikes, stuntmen, stuntwomen and monster truck rides. It's all-out adrenaline and chaos," he explained.

The show has been years in development, growing from the family's hugely successful Daredevil Circus productions into a dedicated stunt spectacular.

"We wanted to strip everything back and focus on pure entertainment. When people sit down, they can see everything. There's nowhere to hide."

Death-Defying Acts

One of the headline attractions is world-class freestyle motocross rider Wayne Jacobs, whose breathtaking tricks regularly leave even seasoned performers stunned.

"He scares me," Dylan admitted. "He's jumping 15 to 17 metres into the air, covering over 20 metres in distance and doing backflips on the bike. He's competed at Monster Jam events and took first place in Cardiff. He's an absolute superstar."

While the stunts may look terrifying, safety remains the top priority, with extensive precautions and safety procedures in place behind the scenes.

"Safety is serious business. You have to know you're going to be alright even if something goes wrong. Thankfully, touch wood, everything has gone perfectly so far."

Tramore

Visitors to Tramore may already have spotted activity along the seafront, where Circus Barnum has been entertaining crowds ahead of the stunt show's arrival. By Friday, the circus setup will make way for what the team calls the Adrenaline Arena, ready for a weekend of spectacular action.

The Adrenaline Stunt Show takes place on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th July along the Tramore seafront. Tickets can be purchased at the venue, but booking in advance online to guarantee entry and secure seating is recommended.

As Dylan put it: "Every day is different. Sometimes you're performing, sometimes you're fixing trucks, sometimes you're pulling them out of fields. I wouldn't trade it for anything."

Starting with the 1926 Census, Cian Manning joins The Big Breakfast Blaa to explore the lives of the couple, Ladovico and Mary Elizabeth Corradi, who lived at one time in Michael Street in Waterford city.

Life and Times

We learn of the professional life and marriage of Mary Elizabeth, whose second husband was an Italian ice cream vendor in the city in the early 20th century. However, a controversial and dark event in September 1908 saw Ladovico charged with stabbing two men in Waterford, with more questions than answers raised by the subsequent court proceedings.

Young athletes from sporting clubs right across the town are featured in a new television promotion for sport across the summer.

They can be seen playing hurling, camogie, football and many other sports against the stunning backdrop of Tramore beach.

Local businesses also rowed in to help with chips, icecream, amusements and other notable features of Tramore setting the scene.

Millie Dunne and Tom Bolger joined Ollie and Dymphna in studio along with Millie's dad, Paidi, and Tom's mum, Eithne.

Like a proud dad over their shoulder in studio was Tom Cullen, Juvenile Chair of Tramore GAA.

You couldn't find a better group of ambassadors for Tramore, and to prove that point, the athletes are also pictured on billboards right across the region.

The all-important swim will take place at 2.45pm, with registration in Ballinacourty from 12.30pm.

The Dungarvan Brass Band will be on site keeping spirits high and vibes good ahead of the swim.

In Helvick, there will be a BBQ, family games, a wellie-throwing competition, music and much more.

All monies raised will go directly into the running costs of the RNLI Helvick, which costs in the region of €100,000 each year.

Additionally, 95% of all personnel associated with the RNLI across Ireland and the UK are volunteers.

This year is particularly special as the swim was unable to take place last year, owing to sea conditions.

Attempts were made on five separate occasions to run the event but unfortunately it wasn't deemed safe to do so.

The racecourse played host to extraordinary acts such as Bob Dylan, Christy Moore, Ray Charles, The Pogues, Shane McGown, Jerry Lee Lewis, Maria McKee and many, many more.

Anne was driving home having dropped her husband to a pub in Kilrossanty.

She spotted a girl walking on the side of a rural road and stopped to offer assistance at close to 10.30pm.

The girl, she realised was trying to make her way to the Mahon Falls carpark to retrieve her bicycle, having walked though the mountains via Coumshingaun.

Extra pairs of hands came on deck to get the bicycle into the car and Anne brought the girl all the way home to Waterford City, returning home at midnight.

The Big Breakfast Blaa was contacted this morning by the mother of the girl who was brought home by Anne.

She was keen to extend her sincere gratitude and through the power of radio, we found Anne and brought her on air.

Following the introduction of the EU Parcel Tax on July 1, it was reported that a €3 tax on each item posted from outside the EU would be applied.

Since then, it has emerged that VAT applies to that tax, bringing the total to €3.70.

From just 15 years of age, Dean played football at a high level for Waterford FC before signing cross-channel for Fulham F.C.

Speaking on The Big Breakfast Blaa, he said 'he fell out of love with football,' shook hands in a small office, packed his bags and moved back home.

This came following enormous sacrifices away from family, friends, and having grown up in a vastly different way to his childhood peers.

Today, Dean owns Platinum Fitness, a business he established almost immediately on returning home to Waterford.

Using his skills, passion, enthusiasm, and zest for bigger challenges, he is set to embark on a 500km running challenge this Saturday in aid of the Solas Cancer Support Centre.

Five men, all from Platinum Fitness will all partake in the challenge which involves running from 6am until 8pm with every cent raised in aid of the Solas Cancer Support Centre.

With big (very healthy!) hearts, they will run 6.7km each hour, leaving time to hydrate and refuel.

They invite absolutely everyone down to Poleberry to Platinum Fitness to cheer, to walk, to run, or to bring provisions. (We know they would appreciate a handmade sign or poster as well!)

Graves & Co

Cian Manning paid his weekly visit to the  The Big Breakfast Blaa  studio for another look at one of the lives recorded by the 1926 Census. This time we look at a youth named John Elmes, who would go on to become a company director of Graves & Co. like his father, Robert Samuel, before him.

Caricaturist

However, John was even more well-known in the cultural life of Waterford city and Tramore for his adeptness as a caricaturist, which would be further popularised by serial publication in the Munster Express.

Multifaceted Life

An important figure within badminton and golfing circles, John’s artistic talents were even recognised by the Department of Agriculture in the 1940s.

Pierre Fetat and Billy Flynn joined Ollie and Dymphna on The Big Breakfast Blaa to chat about the incredible work going into the tournament.

It has already attracted 24 Under-10 teams. Every team will play seven games across the day, making for a remarkable 168 matches in total.

The tournament will bring together all of Waterford's major clubs alongside visitors from France, North End United (Wexford), Shamrock Rovers and more, giving local youngsters a fantastic opportunity to test themselves against teams from Ireland and beyond.

In a wonderful show of community spirit, children from every club in Waterford city will also have the chance to be part of the day.

Pierre and Billy also put out a call to local businesses to get involved. Sponsoring or partnering with the tournament offers valuable local exposure while helping St. Joseph's AFC create the best possible experience for hundreds of young players and their families.

It's a chance to support grassroots football, strengthen community ties and play a part in an event that celebrates the legacy of Michael Grant through sport, friendship and opportunity.

That was the takeaway from her visit to The Big Breakfast Blaa studio this morning for Friday, June 26th.

Following a delicious string of hot days, Grace has been to the beach (she met some nice new friends!)

In 2022, Scott received a bone marrow transplant from his sister, Zola, following a diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia.

After his intital treatment via chemotherapy was unsuccessful, it was necessary to look towards the possibility of a bone marrow transplant.

New Chapter for Scott Murray

Significant challenges were faced during both treatment and recovery, however Scott showed remarkable determination both in sport and in education.

Today, although he brought home a wealth of gold medals from the European Transplant Games, he is poised to move into 6th year in Ardscoil na Mara, Tramore.

Scott visited The Big Breakfast Blaa before he went to the Netherlands, and once he returned home, he came straight back in to the breakfast studio for a big chat.

He used his platform to appeal to those who are in a position to be a donor, be it blood, platelets or other donations, to consider doing so.

Olivia's Spinal Surgery

Olivia in the coming months has another big spinal surgery and will continue to need more. Olivia has had many stays in hospital and is the bravest girl who continues to smile throughout.She uses a bipap machine every night for her sleep apnea. Olivia has an amazing mam, Diane, who spoke with The Big Breakfast Blaa, dad (Tony) and sister Hannah. Diane is a SNA in a special school for 26 years and Tony works in the hospital.

Transforming a Home for Olivia

They live in a 2 storey house, her parents are carrying her upstairs to her bedroom/bathroom. This is not only physically demanding but poses serious safety risks to both Olivia and her caregivers, as she grows this approach will become increasingly unsustanable and unsafe. To ensure Olivia's safety, dignity and independence she needs a safe and accessible bedroom, fully adapted bathroom and a ceiling track hoist to allow her her to be safely transferred between the key areas of the home, and a suitable living space where she can be included in family life. 

These changes aren't just about convenience they are essential.The builders have quoted €120,000 to complete these adaptations, sadly this is far beyond what Olivia's family can afford on their own.

Daithí Not Phased by Competition

Daithí faces competition as 32 drivers in the country are all competing for the number one spot.

The overall winner will go on to the European Championships in Poland to fly the flag for DPD Ireland.

Not one to be phased by competition, Daithí is confident of a win.

Blind-folded Driving and other Terrifying Tasks!

The question is, what will he need to do to secure the win?

To make it this far, he has surpassed all targets set for drivers and he is an all-rounder in his community and on his delivery route.

The 'angels' in Waterford Hospice cared for Anthony's brother-in-law Shane McCarthy during his time in the Oak Ward, University Hospital Waterford.

Shane died on December 27th, knowing he was loved beyond belief by his wife, his children and his extended family and friends.

When words just aren't enough sometimes, actions speak louder. 

It was this which drove Anthony to decide he would use his legs, determination, and stamina to raise money for Waterford Hospice a a thank you for the often thankless work they do, each and every day.

This follows on from his fundraising efforts last year for the Solas Cancer Support Centre.

He joined Ollie and Dymphna on The Big Breakfast Blaa to outline his plans for August and details of his online donation page.

It was from their unit there that the DG Foods story started two decades ago and where they continued to store their supplies and large-scale deliveries.

Speaking at a special customer appreciation Outdoor Broadcast today with The Big Breakfast Blaa, owner Andrew Hepburn spoke about the moment he realised the fire was going to change the lives of so many business owners in Waterford.

Standing outside the building, in his own words, 'watching it burn,' he knew DG Foods would never operate from that location again.

Insurance Cover

Adding to the heartbreak was the realisation that the insurance cover on the premises was not going to cover the cost of the loss, not even nearly.

Andrew and his family are still counting the cost of the fire to their business, estimated to be north of €400,000 and yet his biggest fear was for his staff and their jobs.

Today was about making a conscious decision to move forward, as a family and as a business.

With the help of the community, DG Foods and Press Coffee are moving forwards, forever changed but firmly rooted in community.

Alan Bannon, founder of the hugely successful Cannonball supercar run, joined Ollie and Dymphna on WLR’s Big Breakfast Blaa to discuss the exciting charity event arriving in Waterford on Saturday, June 6th.

The Tramore-born man pursued a profession and a passion in cultivating daffodils from his home in Prospect House, Kilcohan.

From there, Lionel maintained daffodils, tomato plants for sale, a Victorian garden, and even jersey cattle.

Accolades for Richardson's Daffodil

Richardson, for whom Richardson's meadow was named, received numerous accolades for daffodil growing and was supported continually by his wife, Helen.

After his death, their daffodil legacy continued and she won numerous awards in her own right for daffodils.

One of the last flowers bred by Lionel was a rose, appropriately named 'Romance.'

Today, the Richardson's daffodils are poignantly remembered through community artwork in the area.

A new route has been unveiled this year with the dreaded hill on mile 4 removed from the route.

Organisers promise a flat run through scenic countryside including ducks, rivers, greenery and all manner of picturesque vistas.

A walking option, a family friendly young racers option is also part of the 5 mile challenge.

On the night, she was named All-Ireland Local Food Hero for her contributions to regional tourism, the developing food industry locally, and her work as CEO of Waterford Festival of Food.

Eunice, who owns AndChips in Dungarvan has long been a champion of the local food industry in County Waterford and dedicated her award to the wider community who work with her for the betterment of food and social sustainability.

Speaking on that very topic, she told Ollie and Dymphna on The Big Breakfast Blaa that while we talk extensively about food sustainability, social sustainability is just as important.

Events, she says, like Waterford Festival of Food unites people and offers social calendar events which allow people to physically meet others in a warm, welcoming setting.

When asked what continues to drive her, Eunice's answer was 'curiosity' for people, for food, and for community. 

The Irish Restaurant Awards recognised Waterford on a significant level this year, with an Outstanding Achievement Award presented to Paul and Máire Flynn of The Tannery Restaurant, Townhouse, and Cookery School. 

Also big winners on the night were Farmgate, Lismore for Best Casual Dining, Merry's Gastro Pub named Best in Munster, J. & K. Walsh Victorian Spirit Grocer named Munster Pub of the Year, and Slow and Steady for Munster Innovator of the Year.

Earlier this month, The Big Breakfast Blaa popped out to Tramore Nursing Home to cheer along #TeamAnn in their efforts.

All monies raised are going directly to MS Ireland, to find research and supports for those diagnosed with MS and their families.

Across those 8 decades, the club has evolved and grown to become a stronghold of the sailing industry locally.

The historic John Donegan Harp Clock is just one for 8 items ever made.

Bidding took place through Keighery's City Auction Rooms online, on the phone, and in person.

The sale was confirmed online with the understanding that the clock will remain in the country.

The auction saw 400 clocks sell, including a rare engraved pocketwatch belonging to John F Kennedy's grandfather.

Fresh off the back of seeing The Devil Wears Prada 2, the ladies were starry-eyed for Miranda Priestly and her fancy coat.

All events are run by local organisation, West Waterford Mental Health Awareness in a bid to increase awareness of positive mental health across the region.

The decision came on foot of the planned closure of Pieta House in Waterford, with  it described by Pieta as "a strengthened regional and local service model aligned with national health strategies and the development of HSE Regional and Integrated Healthcare Areas".

Located in a modular building adjacent to the main school building, the room will be a place for pupils to regulate and to receive sensory stimulation.

Due to a loophole in Department of Education funding, no assistance could be provided to the school as the sensory room was located in a modular building on the school grounds.

Therefore, the school appealed to the community for assistance.

That support came in the form of individual donations from past pupils, families, local clubs, businesses, and more.

This year’s celebration, held in the beautiful setting of the Sacred Heart Church at The Folly, carried an added sense of occasion. The evening was not only a tribute to the enduring success of the Massed Bands, but also a moment to honour one of the key figures behind its legacy—producer Ger O’Brien.

In a surprise presentation that brought both applause and emotion from the audience, Ger O’Brien producer of the Waterford Massed Bands was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his dedication and vision over the past 20 years. The award acknowledged his tireless work in developing the Massed Bands into a standout cultural event in Waterford’s calendar.

The presentation was made by special guest Steve Walsh MBE, renowned producer of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and President of the Massed Bands. Addressing the audience, Walsh spoke warmly about O’Brien’s commitment, describing his contribution as instrumental in shaping not just an event, but a lasting musical tradition.

The moment of surprise was a highlight of the evening. As O’Brien took to the stage, visibly moved, the audience rose in appreciation—an acknowledgment of two decades of passion, organisation, and unwavering support for musicians and performers alike.

Late of Philip Street, Waterford and Hove, Brighton, Mary worked for electronics company Knowles in the UK.

Following the successful moon landing in 1969, Mary received a letter from Knowles which outlined the role she played in the communication system between the crew and the base on Earth.

She, along with her team had worked on commuications devices which were used by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.

As Artemis II makes its orbit, Mary's name is on an SD card inside the craft, along with the names of her family in Waterford and in England.

Her cousin, Janet Carey joined Ollie and Dymphna to tell the story in her own words.

This is a story which starts with a search for an antique dentistry kit and concludes with a tribute by NASA to Mary.

Mary's work toolbox now resides in Waterford, along with the letter she received in 1969.

An enterprising figure, Cordner began his cycle warehouse in the city on Henrietta Street in 1898.

A raffle was organised on the night by the Parents Association, with hampers and prizes provided by local people and businesses.

The Association matched all funds raised with all proceeds going to Barretstown.

Donating to the charity was a very personal story, holding a special place in the heart of Theo.

As a young child, he availed of their services and credits them as rebuilding his confidence and social skills.

In Waterford, circa 1914, the gang terrorised the city, with reports at the time says 'no shop or grocers were safe.'

The gang's leader, Bill, became particularly infamous for his exploits.

Stock was pilfered, sugary sweets taken, and at a time of economic devastation, grocers in the city were badly hit by the gang of children.

Since the inception of the appeal, Mark has rallied his troops and raised the bar each and every year.

Last week, he was presented with a commemorative cheque marking his fundraising efforts for the past 8 years.

These efforts have raised a cumulative €115,585 all in aid of SVP here in Waterford.

Speaking to Ollie and Dymphna at his gym in Tramore AFC, Mark said he was humbled by the community efforts made.

His reasons for his efforts are deeply personal.

He recalls finding himself in a 'dark place' and managing to 'claw' his way out through the support of SVP.

Lorek O'Keeffe, a student at Mount Sion CBS in Waterford has had an extremely challenging year.

In May of last year, he was rushed to hospital and underwent a 15-hour surgery.

Unprecedented cardiac issues mean that further surgery is likely in Lorek's future.

Along with his family, he attends medical appointments in Dublin at least twice a week.

A fundraising evening taking place on January 31st aims to relieve financial pressures on his family.

Costs are estimated at in the region of €15,000 to purchase the equipment.

Pupils in the special classroom at Garranbane National School have visited other schools with their teachers in recent weeks.

Already, they have compiled a list of their favourite items which they would like to see included in the equipment.

She explained that as the sensory classroom is located in a modular building, there is no funding available.

Consequently, this means the school is relying entirely on support from the community.
