On Arvos with Andy we had KERRI PERRETT with her latest “Sugar Bird Lady”. This is an Australian bush ballad inspired by the remarkable life of Robin Miller. Co-written with Kerri's brother, Dean Perrett, the ballad is a tribute to a woman who turned the impossible into action, combining her love for flying with nursing, to deliver life-saving polio vaccines to remote Aboriginal communities in the Kimberley and Pilbara regions in the 1960s.

To disguise the bitter taste Robin placed drops of the oral vaccine onto sugar cubes, in turn affectionately earning her the nickname “Sugar Bird Lady”. This song is a tribute to her courage, compassion and quiet determination and honours a woman whose selfless service touched thousands of lives. I hope “Sugar Bird Lady” helps keep Robin Miller’s extraordinary story flying for generations to come!

Through regular training, Chukuel has built his fitness, strength, confidence and discipline, while also developing a genuine passion for the sport. What initially started as a way to get fit has now grown into a personal goal to challenge himself further and pursue the opportunity to compete as an amateur boxer.

Chukuel is now motivated to continue developing his skills, learning the fundamentals of competitive boxing and working towards stepping into the ring for his first amateur bout.

With the help of a grant from the Welsh Government the Ensemble arrived in Mparntwe Alice Springs to listen and learn from Indigenous Central Australians. They are providing workshops to Saltbush while they are here.

Wales is committed to becoming the first anti-racist nation in the world by 2030 and proclaim “Being anti-racist is more than just not being racist. It’s proactively taking anti-racist action.”

On Arvos with Andy, we had Elizabeth from The Queen of Hearts. They are an all-female band drawing from the Mexican Mariachi tradition. Mariachi music is a fundamental element of Mexican culture. The Queen Of Hearts are now planning national tours given the success of their music as they showcase culture and belonging, having just played at Bellingen Queensland, performing Gitano, a brand-new song written by Bonnie Smith.

Desert Divas has been running every year in Alice Springs since 2010. It provides mentoring and other industry connections for emerging Indigenous female singer/songwriters, promotes the creation of original music by NT artists and supports women and older girls to develop skills and confidence as performers.

Kee Ahn has announced a headline tour with shows in Sydney, Brisbane, Townsville, and Melbourne. The announcement comes alongside the release of her stirring new single ‘At Least For Now’. The song also marks a new chapter in Kee’ahn’s creative process, as she experimented with self-production for the first time, recording layered harmonies late at night in her bedroom. To bring the final version to life, she collaborated with Jake Amy (keys), Anthony Liddell (bass/production), Sensible J (drums/percussion), and Elle Shimada (strings).

Myeloma is holding an information morning tea on Wednesday the 22nd of October from 10.00am to 12.00pm. The mornings gathering is for people living with for those affected by blood cancer Myeloma.

The Sandhills have just launched Fire on the Mountain on September 28. The performances at the inaugural New Farm New Country cosmic country festival, as well as Margaret River and Denmark WA. A folky love song layered with picked guitars and a tremolo ukulele, sounding a little bit like The Shins, Fire on the Mountain celebrates those moments after a lovers' quarrel, as anger fades and love brings reconciliation. It's about that sheepish look on your face, right before you apologise.
