Andrew Medvedev, Weatherhead School of Management

Andrew Medvedev became dean of the Weatherhead School of Management on July 1, 2024. His focus is on cultivating a culture of trust and belonging in the school, enhancing interdisciplinary collaboration and research, implementing impactful experiential learning, and creating a workplace in which innovation thrives. He envisions Weatherhead as the intellectual entrepreneur’s home of choice.

“I believe Weatherhead can be an audacious school solving the most urgent challenges in management,” Medvedev said. “I believe we get there by fostering a culture of excellence and innovation, attracting bold talent, making critical investments, and focusing on impacting how people think and act.”

Before returning to his alma mater, Medvedev was a managing director and portfolio manager at Morgan Stanley Investment Management. In 2016 Medvedev partnered with trustee Joe Sabatini (MGT ’82) to create the school’s Wall Street Trek. This alumni-funded program readies undergraduates for financial careers and links them with opportunities in NYC’s financial community. Since its inception, about half of the program’s 200 alumni have gone on to work on Wall Street. In 2018 Medvedev joined Weatherhead’s visiting committee.

Medvedev and his family immigrated to Cleveland from Russia in 1992. His ties to CWRU run deep: His mother, Irene Medvedev, served the School of Medicine for 22 years as a senior technologist, and he obtained his undergraduate degree in economics from CWRU in 1997. He earned an MBA from Harvard Business School in 2004.

Medvedev lives in Shaker Heights with his wife, Christine, and their three children.

Amber Gibbs, CEO Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities

As Superintendent and CEO of the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities (Cuyahoga DD), Dr. Amber C. Gibbs and her team support more than 15,000 Cuyahoga County residents with developmental disabilities and their families each year to live, learn, work, and play in the community. Gibbs worked in mental health before moving into direct care, supporting people with DD at an agency provider before joining Cuyahoga DD in 2008. She served in a variety of supervisory and leadership roles before becoming Superintendent and CEO in 2023. Notable accomplishments include leading a major effort to eliminate the Medicaid waiver waiting list in Cuyahoga County and building collaborative relationships that enable the community to better support people of all abilities. Gibbs fosters a culture of service excellence among the agency’s 600 employees, and she champions the voices of people who receive services from Cuyahoga DD, making sure they have a say in decisions the agency makes that affect them. Amber ensures that Cuyahoga DD is an example of inclusion for other community organizations by employing people with disabilities and including people with disabilities on the Cuyahoga DD Board. In addition, she ensures that the work the agency does has input from people it serves through an innovative Leadership Council that advises directors on strategic projects. A leader at the state level with the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities and other county boards, Gibbs was recognized in 2018 with the Ohio Association of County Board’s Partners in Excellence Award for her groundbreaking work to eliminate the statewide Medicaid waiting list. She serves on a number of statewide workgroups focused on improving waiver services and fiscal sustainability. Gibbs serves on the board of directors of Community Fund Ohio, a nonprofit organization that serves as a Trust Advisor for people with disabilities throughout the state. A native Cleveland resident, she is an active volunteer in the community and has served on various nonprofit boards and as a certified foster parent. Gibbs is active in the Beaumont Parents’ Club and is a member of the Wittenberg University Alumni Board. Gibbs holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Wittenberg University, a master’s degree in social science and psychology from the University of Chicago, and a doctorate in organizational leadership from the University of Dayton. She lives in Cleveland with her husband and three daughters.

Joel and Kathleen Ashcraft were both born in Ohio to Salvation Army officer parents. As transition is inevitable in The Salvation Army, they both moved and grew up in the greater New York City area. They have been officers of The Salvation Army for the last 10 years, most recently serving as the Divisional Youth Secretary and Divisional Candidates Secretary for the Northeast Ohio Division based out of Cleveland, Ohio. They coordinated youth work and lead the candidacy efforts for Salvation Army officership across the Division. Throughout the summer, they had the distinct privilege of running Camp NEOSA on beautiful Leesville Lake in Carrollton, OH. Prior to moving to Cleveland, they were corps officers in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY, and loved every minute of their 5 years there. It is their heart’s cry to see everyone they serve come to know the abundance of life available through a relationship with Jesus Christ.

As the Area Commanders for Greater Cleveland Area Services, Captains Ashcraft will oversee the operations of five Greater Cleveland Corps in Collinwood, East Cleveland, Miles Park, Ohio City, and West Park. Additionally, they will supervise all operations at Harbor Light Complex & Zelma George Family Shelter.

Outside of their professional lives, Joel and Kathleen can be found spending time with their three incredible children – Matthew , Evelyn , and Audrey. As a family, they love cheering on Matty at his baseball and basketball games, rooting for Evelyn and Audrey in their soccer games, trying new foods, and taking family trips! Joel is an avid sports fan, and Kathleen loves watching the newest murder mysteries and romantic comedies.

Joel and Kathleen began dating when they were just 16-year-old high school sweethearts and were married shortly after graduating college. Raised in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, Paul has always been an avid nature and wildlife lover. He graduated from The College of Wooster with a degree in Political Science and later earned an MBA from Baldwin-Wallace. His career spans investment banking and wealth management, culminating in his role as the founding partner of Fairport Asset Management (now HighTower Advisors LLC).

Today, Paul is also actively engaged in various community organizations, serving on the boards of The Viles Foundation, Highland Park Golf Foundation and The Cold Creek Foundation. He continues to serve as an active trustee (emeritus) for both The College of Wooster and The Holden Arboretum. Ms. Gallucci holds a Master of Science in Urban Studies from Cleveland State University, and both a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Dayton.
Ms. Gallucci has been the chair of the Northeast Ohio Sustainability Communities Consortium (Vibrant NEO2040) since 2013, receiving the Daniel Burnham Award for best comprehensive plan from the American Planning Association, its highest honor, in 2015.
She is active in various professional organizations including the National Association of Regional Councils. During her 2 ½ years of service, Megan traveled to Calcutta, India to work with Mother Teresa. Megan adds, “I have always had a desire to serve, to know and understand others of different walks, backgrounds, and cultures. When I was young, I had a particular desire within me to give back to others and to learn from them as well. Mother Teresa was a very big example and role model to me. My experience observing Mother Teresa and serving the beautiful people in her homes who were either dying, diseased or sick physically and/or mentally had a major impact on my life as well as did the people I served in Thailand.”

Once back in the U.S. Megan was a pioneer on the Internet Team at Progressive Insurance, obtaining 3 patents.

In 2006, Megan’s 6-year-old daughter, Maria, was diagnosed with a deadly brain tumor with no hopeful treatment or cure. Maria was given 10 months to live and succumbed to the disease a year later after finishing her first grade year. Inspired by her daughter’s battle with the disease and the tremendous love that Maria had for her fellow friends suffering from cancer, Megan co-founded the Prayers from Maria Foundation with her husband Ed in 2006 with a mission to put childhood cancer at the forefront of the battle against cancer.

E. Douglas Beach, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging (WRAAA), has empirical leadership experience and expertise at the federal, state, and local levels. Having spent much of his childhood on family farms, it quite naturally followed Dr. Beach would pursue a doctorate in agricultural economics. Engaged in this pursuit at North Carolina State University, Dr. Beach found it necessary to return to Ohio to care for his ailing father. This circumstance led him to an awareness and interest in a different national resource: the senior population.

Dr. Beach began a career advocating for elders while serving as the Ohio Department of Aging's Deputy Director of Programs, and after many years at the Department of Aging, Congressman David L. Hobson (R-OH) asked Dr. Beach to come on board as a staff economist. Utilizing his assured background in education and economics, Dr. Beach drafted major long-term care insurance legislation working for Congressman Hobson; it was then that Dr. Beach's desire to promote and defend the needs of seniors was revitalized.

In September 1999, Dr. Beach was named the CEO of the Senior Resource Alliance, Florida's most prominent and industrious area agency on aging. Under his leadership, the Orlando-based organization's budget rose from $16 million to $25 million. Soon after, the Senior Resource Alliance became Florida's first Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) and was honored as one of the nation's top 10 Information & Referral systems.

February 2007 brought a knock on the door from Governor Charlie Crist tapping Dr. Beach to be Secretary of the Florida Department of Elder Affairs. Although rough economic times ensued, the Department's budget matched in equal measure to meet the needs of Florida's seniors with the preponderance of funding allocated for senior community and healthcare needs.

One of the premier aging providers in the State of Florida, the Council on Aging of Volusia County (COA) welcomed Dr. Beach as its new Executive Director in June 2010. The COA provided traditional Older Americans Act (OAA) services but also emphasized private pay services and in-home Medicare services.

In October 2014, Dr. Beach became Chief Executive Officer of WRAAA. With his blend of skills, business acumen, and respect for older adults and individuals with disabilities, Dr. Beach continues to provide comprehensive leadership and panoptic guidance to future opportunities and anticipated challenges. Over the past decade, Dr. Beach has transformed an agency on the edge into the largest minority-dominated Area Agency on Aging in the State of Ohio.

Margolius took the oath of office as the city’s first physician Public Health Director in over 40
years.

Dave was born in Cleveland and raised in Shaker Heights. For the 7 years prior to joining the
City of Cleveland, he worked at MetroHealth System as a Primary Care Physician and held a

Using her years of experience in the medtech industry, Maria identified an unmet market need for a non-opioid, non-surgical pain treatment to improve the lives of millions of pain sufferers. The idea for this new treatment originated during her biomedical engineering graduate studies at Case Western Reserve University, where she developed a peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) system to treat pain and also led R&D at an early stage neurostim company. During this experience, Maria discovered her passion for working with patients and physicians and witnessing life-changing results. She also learned the challenges of growing and sustaining an entrepreneurial company. From there, Maria was recruited to lead a team at Boston Scientific to conduct a large clinical trial, which demonstrated the safety and efficacy of an innovative angioplasty balloon and achieved FDA approval. While it was a great experience to work for a large medtech company, when a former colleague presented the opportunity to join a new start-up company, she couldn’t resist and returned to Cleveland to serve as VP of Clinical at NDI Medical. At NDI, she played a vital role in the development of a neurostim system addressing urinary incontinence, which was acquired by Medtronic in 2008. After the sale of NDI, Maria revisited her idea of a novel pain relief therapy, validated there was an unmet market need, and founded SPR to commercialize its SPRINT® PNS System. She is the inventor of SPRINT, having multiple patents issued. Maria earned her BS degree in engineering management from Miami University (Ohio) and earned her MS degree in biomedical engineering from Case. She was awarded the East Central Region Entrepreneur of the Year from Ernst & Young in 2021.

Cliff A. Megerian, MD, is Chief Executive Officer of University Hospitals (UH), a comprehensive health system with annual revenues of $5.3 billion, 21 hospitals (including 5 joint ventures), more than 50 health centers and outpatient facilities, and over 200 physician offices located throughout 16 counties. He assumed this position in February 2021 and joined UH in 2002. He is also the Jane and Henry Meyer Chief Executive Officer Distinguished Chair.

In December 2019, Dr. Megerian was appointed the system’s President, where he led the organization through an unprecedented pandemic. Prior to that, he served as President, University Hospitals Physician Network, Physician Services and System Institutes. In these positions, he was charged with managing the clinical integration strategies, policies and practice guidelines for more than 2,500 UH employed physicians as well as the operations and infrastructure for UH system institutes. These clinical care institutes bring highly trained subspecialists together from multiple disciplines to collaborate on the best treatment for patients – promoting uniform, standard care protocols and the sharing of best practices.

Additionally, he raised physician productivity to its highest level and significantly increased physician engagement and research funding. UH’s physician network includes the full-time academic medical practice at UH Cleveland Medical Center and UH’s community-based, multi-specialty physician network throughout Northeast Ohio.

Dr. Megerian is also a Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Medicine, where he was Chair from 2012 – 2018 and held the Julius McCall Professorship at CWRU, as well as the Richard and Patricia Pogue endowed Chair in Auditory Surgery and Hearing Sciences at UH. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Surgery at Northeast Ohio Medical University.

Prior to UH, he served on the physician staffs of the Louis Stokes Cleveland Veteran Affairs Medical Center and MetroHealth System Medical Center. At the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, Dr. Megerian was the Director of Otology and Neurotology, as well as the Director of Residency Training, the Medical Director, Cochlear Implantation Program, and the Co-Director, Center for Skull Base Diseases. He also served on the medical staff of Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and Boston Medical Center.

Dr. Megerian’s clinical career has been devoted to the management of hearing loss, chronic ear disease, cholesteatoma, otosclerosis, vertigo, and other otology and neurotology issues. As a surgeon, Dr. Megerian co-founded UH’s Cochlear implant program and he and his team have performed over 1,500 cochlear implant surgeries, making it one of the largest programs in the country.

He is also an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of acoustic neuroma. He has published over 130 peer-reviewed manuscripts and abstracts and has served as visiting professor at numerous medical schools and institutions throughout the world.

His research interests in the pathogenesis of Meniere’s disease have been funded by a number of agencies including the NIH and DRF. He previously served as a consultant to the FDA in the regulation of Ear, Nose and Throat Devices. He is co-author of a textbook in its second publishing, “Surgery of the Cerebellopontine Angle.”

Dr. Megerian is a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School and completed a residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at University Hospitals of Cleveland and CWRU. Dr. Modlin is formerly a 27-year veteran and member of Cleveland Clinic’s Surgical Staff, Associate Professor of Surgery, and is a Kidney Transplant Surgeon & Urologist and served on Cleveland Clinic’s Board of Governors, Board of Directors and Board of Trustees and served as the elected President of the Medical Staff of Cleveland Clinic. He founded Cleveland Clinic’s Minority Men’s Health Center (MMHC) and in 2003 established Cleveland Clinic’s famed Annual Minority Men’s Health Fair (which as of 2022 he established at MetroHealth) that has provided free health screenings, health examinations and health education to thousands of predominantly African American males for the early detection of disease to enhance and save lives. In 2011, he was named by The Atlanta Post as one of the Top 21 Black Doctors in America. Dr. Modlin was the First African American Staff Urologist in the History of Cleveland Clinic AND the First and Only ever Black Transplant Surgeon in the History of Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Modlin graduated from Northwestern University and Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, completed a six-year residency in Urologic Surgery at New York University, a three-year fellowship in kidney transplantation surgery at Cleveland Clinic and joined the Cleveland Clinic Staff in 1996. He has completed organizational leadership development training certification at the Harvard Business School.

Dr. Modlin is a noted national leader for the elimination of health disparities and promotion of health equity. Honors include Appointment to the Ohio Commission on Minority Health by two Ohio Governors, Northwestern University Presidential Alumni Medal, the Inaugural 2009 Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine Distinguished Humanitarianism in Medicine Award, 2007 MLK Greater Cleveland Partnership Community Service Award, Call & Post 100 Top Influential Leaders, numerous Cleveland Magazine Best Doctors recognitions, recognition in the Inaugural Edition of Who’s Who in Black Cleveland as One of Cleveland’s Most Interesting, and the prestigious 2015 Black Professional Association Black Professional of the Year recognition, The Soul of Philanthropy Award in 2021, among many other recognitions and awards. Governor Mike DeWine in March 2020 appointed Dr. Modlin to serve on the Ohio Governor’s Minority Covid-19 Strike Force (MSF) where he chaired the Education, Communications & Outreach Subcommittee.

Dr. Modlin has also dedicated his life to mentoring the younger generation who aspire to achieve their goals in life. As such, he is a published author of a success navigation and mentorship book, entitled “It Isn’t Difficult To Do It IF You Know How To Do It”, in which he provides practical and advanced advice, wisdom, guidance and life and career navigation success guidance based upon his lived experiences in order to help facilitate the younger generation in successfully navigating their success journeys.

Ethan Holmes founded Holmes Mouthwatering in 2008 at the age of 15 after being inspired by his grandfather's applesauce recipe and deciding to innovate his own line of products. While studying business at Hiram college, he launched the business in 2014 making small batches at a time on campus, eventually growing to his first major retailer: Heinen’s in 2015, Giant Eagle in 2016, and Whole Foods Market and Kroger in 2107, selling at a total of 300 locations.

To date, they have processed 500,000 pounds of apples from local orchards and made 250,000 units in-house for consumers across the U.S. selling primarily in the Midwest and online, achieving lifetime sales of $400,000.

In addition to making and selling applesauce, they created a community program called the Holmes Entrepreneur Initiative teaching youth entrepreneurship through programming, internships, and workshops around applesauce. His brand was chosen for the Chobani Incubator in 2020, The SKU Coca-Cola Accelerator in 2022, and raised $700k from angel investors and grant funding since their start.

After 7 years in business and many lessons later, he is now in the final stages of launching a rebranded, improved, and innovative line: 3.2 oz pouches of applesauce. The 1st pouched applesauce on the market with chunks of real fruit!

It took him $100,000 and over a year to finalize the packaging with global branding agency Moxie Sozo and nearly 2 years to find the right contract manufacturing partner to recreate their formulas and maintain a premium quality and competitive price point.

He had an opportunity to visit their new contract manufacturer in Chile in July to visit their plant and was happy to see they manufacture for prominent U.S. retailers, such as Kroger, Aldi, Walmart, Safeway, and more. Producing over 50MM+ applesauce pouches annually, giving his products a 20% gross margin increase and an option for price breaks as they scale.

He signed a 3-year contract with the manufacturer for 360,000 pouches or 60,000 sellable units to be made by the end of the year and delivered to the U.S. Q1 2023.

So far, they have commitments from the following: Target, Giant Eagle, Walmart, Heinen's, Whole Foods Market and food service accounts (concessions, foodbanks), and are expecting an additional 500 doors acquired throughout the remainder of the year (Sprouts, Wegman's, Marc's, Fresh Market, etc).

Kathryn Heidemann—a senior arts management and higher education leader, educator and artist—first joined CIA in 2019 as Vice President of Academic Affairs + Dean of Faculty. In her role as the College’s chief academic officer, she was responsible for program and curricular development and delivery, academic operations and strategy, student affairs, and accreditation and assessment.

Heidemann played a key role in the development of CIA’s most recent strategic plan, led the college’s successful reaccreditation process and led its COVID-19 academic planning, which resulted in the school safely offering in-person instruction. She also was instrumental in founding the Jane B. Nord Center for Teaching + Learning.

Prior to joining CIA, Heidemann worked at Carnegie Mellon University, where she served as Assistant Dean at the College of Fine Arts and Heinz College of Public Policy & Information Systems Management. As part of her role, she spearheaded the arts and entertainment management graduate programs in Pittsburgh and Los Angeles, creating data- and tech-informed leaders in the visual arts, performing arts, and interactive and entertainment media.

Heidemann brought two decades of professional arts and nonprofit management experience to her work at CIA, having worked in artistic programming, operations, external relations, and education and community engagement for a variety of cultural institutions, including The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, Chicago Academy for the Arts and Edinburgh Festival Fringe, to name a few.

An active community leader, Heidemann also served as a mayor-appointed Art Commissioner to the City of Pittsburgh, a longtime board member of the Association of Arts Administration Educators, and an advisor to the National Consortium for Creative Placemaking. Heidemann holds a Master of Arts Management degree from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia College Chicago. She is also a graduate of Leadership Cleveland (2022); the Leadership Academy for Women at the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon; Leadership Pittsburgh’s Leadership Development Initiative; Coro Center for Civic Leadership’s Women in Leadership program; and was named a 2018 Fellow by the International Council for Fine Arts Deans.

Heidemann is especially interested in role of higher education in creative placemaking, arts and community-engaged experiential learning, as well as cross-sector initiatives that intersect creativity, technology and social impact. Raised abroad (Australia, Venezuela, Germany), Heidemann is also passionate about the role of the arts in building bridges, fostering mutual understanding and cultural diplomacy.

An active bass guitarist and songwriter for more than 20 years, Heidemann performs with various bands and musical projects across the region. She lives in Shaker Heights, Ohio with her husband and two sons.
