At the weekend Mark Latham, the former leader, said that Kevin Rudd was evil and “certifiable”. I think he said he was nuts. Well, I’m sorry, but Julia Gillard has reached the end of the road. She’s either ill with envy, jealousy, anger and humiliation or she’s a seriously evil woman. And yes, forget misogyny, this woman by her speech yesterday is a misanthrope, a hater of men. Fancy reportedly telling any gathering, let alone a gathering of women, that they would be “banished from politics” and abortion would be “the plaything of men” if Mr Abbott won the election. This was launching a fundraising organisation linked to the Labor Party called Women For Gillard. What did Graham Richardson say yesterday, they’d have to be stupid. Indeed, so consumed she must be with jealousy and anger that the man she’s despised and sought to discredit, Tony Abbott, is about to give her one hell of a thrashing at the election that yesterday she said things that most Australians wouldn’t understand, other than to raise questions about her fitness for office. Last October it was the ridiculous misogyny speech that she thought gave her a cheering advantage. Well yesterday she inferred that under Tony Abbott “we will banish women’s voices from the core of our nation’s political life.  I invite you to imagine it, a Prime Minister, a man with a blue tie who goes on holidays to be replaced by a man in a blue tie”. What the hell does that mean? Or is she having a double hit at Abbott and Rudd. Julie Bishop, the Deputy Opposition Leader and a woman of class compared to the misanthropic attacks by Julia Gillard, called it a patronising and insulting speech not worthy of a Prime Minister of this country. As Julie Bishop said, “We are a better nation than this and Australia deserves better leadership”. Labor backbencher Stephen Jones, a convenor of the left, also expressed concern at the thought that abortion would become an election issue. But back to Ms Gillard and the gender divide, again let me repeat. Surely the language of a jealous, angry, humiliated and quite vicious woman that abortion policy would be back in play if Labor was defeated. “On that day, September 14, we’re going to make a big decision as a nation ... it’s a decision about whether once again we will banish women’s voices from our political life.” Just imagine if Abbott had said that, or Howard. And what does this mean, “A Prime Minister – a man in a blue tie who goes on holidays to be replaced by a man in a blue tie.  A Treasurer who delivers a budget wearing a blue tie to be supported by a Finance Minister, another man in a blue tie.  Women once again banished from the centre of Australia’s political life”. The woman is sick. And what does she mean once again banished? One female Labor MP is quoted as saying, “This seems very strange.  Why would she say this.  No one’s even talking about it”. The prominent feminist commentator Eva Cox described it as “an attempt to insert an anti-Abbott element into her political message to women”, but also said that Ms Gillard avoided any mention of single parents who had been “screwed by being taken off parenting payments and put on a lower Newstart scheme”. Eva Cox said, “I think that was a blatantly sexist policy and not a good look for a Labor Government”. The woman is desperate. With the power of a Prime Minister available to her, Mark Latham would be better off describing Ms Gillard, not Mr Rudd, as evil. This is as low as it gets in political or public life.
